There are a lot of scenes in The Shining that are somehow "odd". One interesting example is where Hallorann makes calls to the US Forest Service. A red phone? A suitcase he always takes with him? What's in there? Nuclear launchcodes? But well, doh, the roof makes it clear, this is a reference to Dr. Strangelove!

So I thought I take a look, and maybe I'll find another reference, or two. And what can I say, there are more:

Then there is the whole Coke-machine affair:

Then there are some that might not have been intentional (water-coolers and vending machines omitted):

Of course it is possible I missed something!

Oh well, there are some things in Dr. Strangelove which have some analogues in The Shining, but aren't that glaring, so I didn't make such a direct comparison for those:

"KEEP OFF THE GRASS" – signs instructing the personal what should or should not be done.

More signs with instructions: "CIVIL DEFENSE IS YOUR BUSINESS" and "GEE DAD! THANKS FOR THINKING OF US"

Vending machine, pin-boards with notices

Water-cooler

Fire alarm bell and trigger (on right side of image)

And as a teaser: there might be some references to 2001 in The Shining as well… but enough for today.
